The Fifty Six Restaurant in Bophut is owned and run by Henry and Volker, who are both from Germany, and were attracted to Koh Samui’s tropical shores and warm climate 5 years ago

Fifty Six has an exciting and varied menu with something to suit every taste and budget.
Many of the items on the menu caught my eye and from the starter menu I sampled The Pork satay with Indonesian peanut sauce that is literally bursting with oriental flavors and melts in the mouth. The Smoked salmon with sushi that comes with a fresh tasting cucumber relish and the contrasting taste of pickled ginger creates a taste sensation and there are several fresh salads to choose from as well as soups and side dishes.

The main courses on offer include Grilled New Zealand lamb cutlets with peppercorn and wild basil sauce that is served with mashed orange potato. The combination of flavors, textures and colour makes this dish quite irresistible. The main course menu also features Pan fried Indian tuna, white snapper, marinated duck breast, spicy Cajun chicken as well as seafood marinara spaghetti, Australian beef tenderloin, grilled pork with either mustard honey, or pineapple sauce and a wonderful 2 person seafood platter laden with the day’s fresh catch.

If you are looking for something more traditional there is a nice variety of Thai dishes on the menu that are cooked to perfection. The Thai menu includes Massaman, red, green or panaeng curry, Pad Thai, Tom ka gai, Gai gatiam and Kuai teaw nam.

As well as Thai side dishes the menu also pleasingly offers a kids menu to meet your little people’s culinary requirements.

My recommendation from the tantalizing desserts menu has to be the Chocolate lava cake with cashew nuts and Italian mascarpone ice cream. This little slice of heaven has to be tasted to be believed, equally note worthy is the mixed tropical fruits with home made passion fruit ice cream that is simply delightful.

The well trained restaurant staff at Fifty Six are attentive but not invasive and are happy to make suggestions when you simply can’t decide what to choose from the menu. Thai dishes can be cooked to your personal requirements when it comes to spice, so even those with a less adventurous pallet can enjoy the unique taste of Thailand. You will find a comprehensive drinks menu as well as a well chosen wine selection and the staff are happy to recommend the bottle that will compliment your food selection.

Fifty Six has regular theme nights. You can enjoy traditional Thai dancing on Wednesday nights between 8-45 and 9.30. Daily specials help make fine dining more affordable if you are on a budget are advertised on the board outside the restaurant, and, on Saturdays you can enjoy the all you can eat 56 exquisite Buffet that includes both Thai and European selections from the menu for as little as 199 baht, making this one of the most versatile dining venues on the island.

This tastefully decorated restaurant with its impressive water features, art and Chinese lanterns, gracious hosts, fine food and wines is the perfect place to relax and unwind. Fifty Six lends itself as well to romantic diners as it does for families with children thanks to its creative dining spaces that offer as much in space as they do in privacy. The restaurant seats 29.
