With island prices on the increase I am pleased to announce there is one place where ‘value for money’ just gets better and better. Lords Bar and Grill in Choeng Mon is really upping its act, but pleasingly not its prices.

Owner Andrew, a personable perfectionist from the UK, is creating the kind of bar/restaurant he would like to enjoy. Recently Andrew has employed the services of a top chef to give him advice he needs in order to find the best produce suppliers, how to increase food quality, and how to train his chef, kitchen and serving staff. The difference is astounding.

Already famous for its unbeatable Sunday Dinners, that are so popular now booking is a must, Lords is now wowing its customers with Brazilian Rib Eye Steaks that would not look at all out of place in a world class five star restaurant. It is certainly the best steak I have eaten on the island and I would have not been disappointed with the presentation and quality of this dish if I had been charged five times as much.

Andrew is delighted with the changes he has made that allow all of his valued customers to enjoy 5 star cuisine at local pub prices. To add to its affordability, during what are some pretty tough times on Koh Samui, Andrew serves 60 baht beers, 60 baht house spirits with a mixer and 89 baht cocktails from 4pm until 8pm as well as 12 inch thin crust Italian style pizza that comes with either a beer or two soft drinks and garlic bread, for under 300 baht. Judging by the amount of expats in his bar these, and his other great deals, are going down a storm with the locals as well as guests from the surrounding 5 star hotels who have become frequent visitors to this fine establishment. During a very enjoyable evening at Lords I found Andrew to be an exceptional young entrepreneur who is without a doubt going to be one of Samui’s success stories. Touches that you wouldn’t normally find a bar, such as toilets that are cleaned every half an hour and individual hand towels really make this a pub with the difference. Quality is high up on the agenda here as is customer service. Andrew is now so confident with his new recipe for success he told me that if your Sunday Roast Dinner takes more than 20 minutes to reach you, you simply won’t be charged. The Sunday Roast gravy, that takes four days to make, could literally be enjoyed from a wine glass and is made separately for each meat.

Andrew has big plans for the future, a new menu is on its way that will include ‘English’ Indian Curry’, Chili Con Carne, Loaded Potato Skins and what will be the signature dish, A Fillet Steak Sandwich with a mustard mayo. The home made French fries, as well as the roast potatoes, have never seen the inside of a microwave or a deep fat fryer and like everything else in Lords kitchen, are subject to stringent quality control.

This well laid out pub with space for everything and everybody hosts all major televised sporting events, pool nights on Mondays and Wednesdays (both sponsored by TEFL) and killer pool on Fridays with free finger food. The darts league that is about to be launched will take place on Tuesdays and a Thursday pub quiz night is coming soon too. Call Andrew on 087898694 or visit Lords Bar for more information
