The Arada

The Arada Bar and Restaurant on the Ghost Road in Bangrak is owned by a delightful lady called Apple who has the sort of smile for which Thailand is renowned.

Apple, who was born and raised in Koh Samui, studied hotel business management in Surat Thani and gained valuable experience in the hospitality industry at some of the best hotels on Koh Samui.

On completion of her studies Apple ran a fresh food market that enjoyed great success on the island, before returning to Surat Thani to study travel and tourism. On her return to Koh Samui Apple opened a souvenir shop selling ceramics and Thai paintings before working for her family’s property rental business.

Three years ago Apple decided to use her training and experience to branch out on her own and opened the Arada Bar and Restaurant, she has never looked back.

The Arada is a charming restaurant with tasteful décor and a warm and cozy atmosphere. Apple has a very creative flair that is evident by the restaurants hand made silk cushions, stone Buddha statues and murals as well as arty table decorations and salt and pepper pots.

The Arada offers a marvelous selection of Thai food, Fresh Sea Food, western and Italian Dishes. Apple’s Chef has over twenty years of experience in cooking western food and he really knows his stuff. The menu offers an exciting selection of starters such as the fresh mixed salad, that is crisp and colorful and beautifully presented, and the Thai spring rolls, served with dipping sauce, that are pleasingly grease free and taste simply delicious.

The pizzas, baked in an authentic Italian oven, at the Arada really take some beating; with crusts as crisp as the toppings are moist, your only problem here is going to be choosing which one of the extensive selection to pick! A popular choice is the Capricciosa that has tomato, ham, egg, olives, mushrooms, onions and lashings of mozzarella cheese.

The Chicken Massaman Curry is really special and has a distinctly Indian flavor, only order this dish when you have a healthy appetite the portions are enormous.

The Arada menu has a nice selection of breakfasts with light options and fresh fruits as well the more traditional English style fayre. The lunch time menu includes burgers, sandwiches, Italian salads, soups, Thai soups, and a wonderful selection of both Thai and Italian dishes.

For your evening meal, or for larger lunch time appetites, choose from T-bone Steak, Fillet Mignon, Sirloin Steak, Lamb Steak and Scalopopna of either Chicken or Pork. The main dishes are accompanied by either, mushroom, green pepper, garlic butter, red wine or white wine sauces and a choice of baked or French fried potatoes, mixed salad or garlic butter rice.

It is hard to imagine that you will still have room for dessert with such generous portions being served but just in case, Tiramisu, Panna Cotla, Crème Carame or Apple Pie with Ice Cream are there for your enjoyment!

The Arada serves quaffable and affordable house red and white wine and has an exciting cocktail list.

The restaurant offers indoor and outdoor dining as well as free pool and some friendly conversation at the friendly bar that is very popular among the local expats.

The Arada is a great place to celebrate special occasions and enjoy private parties. If you would like something special that is not on the menu then just let Apple know a day in advance and she and her staff will fulfill your needs.

The restaurant is really well thought out in both terms of the menu, use of available space and stylish fixtures and fittings. Apple’s training, experience and enthusiasm have culminated in what can only be described a simply delightful bar and restaurant.
